Head of Buenos Aires demands governor pay debt for homeless assistance

Buenos Aires, April 1 (NA) – The head of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, demanded that the Governor of the Province, Axel Kicillof, pay a debt of 27 billion pesos for the assistance received by Buenos Aires residents who remain homeless in the city. According to the Buenos Aires Government publication, its jurisdiction has 61 Social Inclusion Centers that provide comprehensive 24-hour care to 4,626 people. In particular, they assist 'at least 2,327 people with domicile in the Province,' and for this reason, they request that the provincial administration take charge of the funds used for this purpose. 'As established in Decree 373/2025 of the National Government, which modifies the Law on Homelessness and Families Without Shelter, the responsibility for the care of people in a street situation is the competence of each jurisdiction. However, the Province of Buenos Aires is not complying. But we are not going to normalize that others do not do their part. Fulfilling the law is not optional. And taking charge should not be either,' concluded the Minister of Human Development and Habitat.
